The University and City Library of Cologne (USB) is a central academic service facility that provides literature, knowledge and information to students and staff of the university as well as residents of the city and the region.
The library offers both a broad spectrum of current information media and a rich collection of historically valuable holdings. It also sees itself as a partner for the economy, whose information needs it serves through its collection specialisations.
It has a well-developed textbook collection and an extensive non-lending reference collection in the open stacks, reading room and catalogue area (approx. 100,000 volumes) with approx. 560 workstations.
Parallel to the founding of the university in 1971, the university library of the TH Köln began operations. The institution is designed as a single-tier library system and comprises four campus libraries in Cologne, Leverkusen and Gummersbach.
One of the library’s central core services is the fast and reliable provision of information for the study, teaching and research needs of university members. With its premises at the four university locations, it also offers modern learning spaces with a high quality of stay and IT-supported information services. The service portfolio is rounded off by supporting services in the areas of open access and academic publishing.

In addition to the macromedia library, there are a large number of other libraries in Cologne.
